The midriff section has an interesting curve to it, higher in the front and dipping down in the back. I was a little concerned that she wouldn't be able to wear the brown belt that she wanted to wear but it worked out okay. I made thread loops at the side seams to keep the belt in place.
The gathers are on the sides of the front and back sections. This turned out to be a very flattering detail. Leave it to Vogue to get all the little details right.
My daughter loves this pattern and I loved making it for her. I'm on the lookout for another great fabric. By the way, it only took about 2 1/4 yards of 45 inch fabric for her size 6 dress!
Beautiful job! The dress and your daughte are quite lovely.
ReplyDeleteVery cute dress! Your daughter should get lots of wear out of it!
ReplyDeleteYour daughter is so pretty and the dress u made looks fantastic, the material suits it so well!
ReplyDeleteI came across your blog after quizzing why the midriff dips at the back and got told by a sewing/blog mate that it's the design of the pattern and not due to my bodice not fitting properly and referred me to PR to find your blog.
I've made this particular bodice 6 times (twice as per view A, twice replacing the skirt with slim skirts, twice replacing skirts with full gathered skirts and adding Peter pan collar) and one recently noticed the odd dipping at the back when wearing skinny belts.
I thought I had a weird fitting issue but turns out I don't :)
I agree with the skirt, that it should be gathered all the way round. I've actually drafted my own full skirts and the full gathering all the way round makes the dress even cuter :)
Love your version and your daughter styling it with the red blazer. Looks awesome!
I think the dip in the back is an interesting design detail. I showed it to my daughter before making the dress because she really wanted to wear the brown belt. She said it didn't bother her that the seam dips down below the belt. I love the pattern. Isn't it great to find a pattern that you like well enough to use over and over again. I love your version with the deep V in the back!
ReplyDeleteHow can I see the version with the V back. I'd like to try that. I'm thinking of using this pattern for a vintage look wedding dress. Your daughter's dress looks lovely!
DeleteNeeno's V back version can be found on her blog:
